SASSU/USSA day 4…

The days have gone passed so quickly and the USSA/SASSU tournament is about to end. Teams from different provinces made it through to the semi-finals. The University of Rhodes also made it through to the semi-finals…SUPRISE, SUPRISE. To their disadvantage, they met up with “the hungry UJ” and came of short. Another shocking suprise was the second ladies semi-final, were VUT lost to UJ… Something that most people were not really expecting, considering that Vaal came through with their new recruits from Zimbabwe who played a big role in the team but that was not enough to stop the UJ guards, who killed VUT by shooting from the outside, sending Vaal packing; causing the defending champs to be playing Limpopo for third and fourth position.

SASSU/USSA day 2…

UKZN vs. UNW Men

It was a game of two unknowns and the winner would stand a chance to advance to the semi finals. Both teams played an up and down type of reminiscent of the ping pong video game. By the end of the first quarter it was neck and neck with UKZN holding to a lead of 5 points. KZN big man, Thabane Dube had a big game under rim and grabbed most of rebounds and converting with ease.

SASSU/USSA day 1…

USSA’s are finally happening and teams are ready to play ball. Teams started arriving in the late afternoons, to get room allocations and settle in to their rooms at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

Yesterday was the first day of tournament and all the teams were ready to represent. The morning games were scheduled and The University of Limpopo was scheduled to play Rhodes University (Ladies). This was Rhodes first USSA tournament and they got of on a good note during the first half of the game. With Limpopo not having the same team they had at last years USSA, you would think they would have trouble wining against Rhodes. The game was pretty competitive, but the lack of experience Rhodes had got the better of them allowing Limpopo to dominate the game and winning their first game of the tournament.
